This policy explains what cookies are, which ones this website uses, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with personal information more generally.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. Cookies do useful things like remembering that you are logged in, or keeping items in a basket while you move between pages. They can also be used to count visitors or track behaviour across websites.
Some cookies last only as long as your visit and disappear when you close your browser. Others stay on your device for a set period so the site recognises you when you come back.
Your choices come first
UK law is clear on this: apart from cookies that are strictly necessary to make the website work, we must ask your permission before setting any cookie, and you must be able to refuse without losing access to the site.
So when you first visit, you will see a banner asking what you are happy with. You can accept, refuse, or choose which types you allow. Refusing is a genuine option and the site will still work.
You can change your mind at any time. Use the cookie preferences link in the footer of this website, or clear cookies through your browser settings.
The cookies this website uses
Strictly necessary cookies
These make the website function and cannot be turned off. They do things like keeping the site secure, remembering what you have put in a form, and making sure pages load correctly. They do not track you and are not used for advertising.
These are set by Squarespace, the platform our website runs on.
Analytics cookies
Set only with your consent. These tell us how many people visit, which pages they read, and roughly where in the world they are. We use this to work out which pages are useful and which are not.
We look at this information in the aggregate. We are not trying to identify you individually and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
Functional cookies
Set only with your consent. These remember preferences such as choices you have made on the site, so you do not have to set them again.
What we do not do
We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not allow advertising networks to track you across other websites through our site. We do not sell any information collected through cookies.
Seeing exactly what is set
The consent banner shows the current list of cookies in each category, which is always the most up-to-date source. You can also see exactly what a site has set on your device at any time through your browser: in most browsers, click the padlock or icon to the left of the web address and look for cookies or site data.
Third parties
Our website is built on Squarespace, and some cookies come from them as the platform provider. Where we send our email newsletters through Squarespace, links in those emails may record that they were clicked so we can see whether an email was useful.
Our membership platform and payment provider set their own cookies once you are using them, and their own policies apply there. We will name them here as soon as the member area is live.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. The settings are usually under Privacy, Security or Site Settings. Two things worth knowing:
Blocking all cookies will break parts of most websites, including ours
Deleting cookies also clears choices you have made, so you may be asked about cookies again
Your browser's help pages explain the exact steps for your version.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to it, so we do not rely on it. Use the cookie banner instead, which we do act on.
Changes to this policy
If we add a new tool that sets cookies, we will update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent again. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
